April Business Update: SRUC
After two years of operation as a Limited Company, Agrecalc became part of Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC) as of 1 April 2025.
At this year’s Low Carbon Agriculture Show, at NAEC Stoneleigh near Kenilworth, the Agrecalc team will be welcoming you to our stand to demonstrate the newest additions to our Platform-as-a service, Agrecalc Cloud.
The team will also deliver a presentation on Wednesday, March 6, at 12:45, during the session on GHG Removal and Carbon Farming.
Agrecalc will be sponsoring the session in which Eirinn Rusbridge, Senior Project Engineer, NFU Energy, and Philip Gorringe, from Lower Blakemere Farm will explore relevant topics. Mr Rusbridge’s presentation will explore the role of carbon reporting in agriculture, emphasising the ethos of reduction before ofsetting, and Mr Gorringe will share his experience in transitioning to regenerative farming to help reduce emissions.
Julian Bell, Agrecalc Principal Consultant and Agriculture Director, said: “We report results at the whole farm, enterprise and product level. This approach is complemented by benchmarking emissions and pinpointing hotspots, facilitating the identification of areas for targeted mitigation actions. The best baseline is yourself, especially as you follow your results from year to year.”
Following the success of the last year’s show, when more than two hundred people visited the stand for a chat and to see the demo of our cutting-edge platform-as-a-service, Agrecalc Cloud, Agrecalc has taken massive strides in the development of the tool, its team, and the usability of the platform.
After welcoming the DEFRA report on harmonisation, Agrecalc has joined the three major farm carbon calculators in an initiative to work together to support UK agriculture. The companies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), intended to harmonise the methodologies used in calculating the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from agriculture.
Since the initial step, we held a joint webinar to explain what this move means, as well as established an Industry Fertiliser Steering Group to explore how new and novel fertilisers with lower carbon footprints should be incorporated into all carbon calculators. Further work is being done on calculator interoperability to enable data transfer between calculators.
In the time between the two LCA Shows, Agrecalc has embarked on a year of success. Aside from the harmonisation initiative, we can talk about the following highlights:
“This is a fantastic show that addresses the agrifood sector’s growing appetite to invest in meaningful emissions mitigation. The show has a very good mix of exhibitors ranging from electric vehicles to renewables and data, as well as a comprehensive range of speakers in the three seminar streams."
Scott Davies, Agrecalc CEO
The show is organised by Agriconnect, the UK’s largest agricultural information business, powered by Farmers Guardian and supported by other Agriconnect brands.
With sustainability and net zero at the forefront of emerging legislation in the agricultural sector, the LCA Show 2025 is poised to guide farmers and landowners through the energy, environmental, and farming transition. Governments worldwide are aligning farming policies with environmental best practices, amplifying the need for information and solutions. LCAS provides crucial guidance to businesses navigating the evolving landscape of sustainable farming practices and planning.
Scott Davies, Agrecalc CEO, said: “This is a fantastic show that addresses the agrifood sector’s growing appetite to invest in meaningful emissions mitigation. The show has a very good mix of exhibitors ranging from electric vehicles to renewables and data, as well as a comprehensive range of speakers in the three seminar streams.
“The UK is committed to achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050 and the agricultural sector is uniquely placed to be part of the solution. Agrecalc will be there to explore the ways our clients and partners can measure, benchmark, and lower the carbon footprint on farms and land-based businesses, as well as throughout the entire food supply chain.”
The event is free to attend – users can register on the organisers’ registration page.

Biochar is a carbon-rich material produced by pyrolysing biomass, which offers a variety of potential agronomic benefits. In this guest article, Black Bull Biochar discusses how these effects work together to bolster productivity, sustainability, and resilience in farming.
The harmonisation of carbon calculator methodologies has taken significant steps forward with two key developments: the establishment of an Industry Fertiliser Steering Group and the progress towards an interoperable data format. These initiatives aim to enhance the precision, usability, and impact of farm carbon calculators, benefitting farmers and the agrifood sector as a whole.
